Dear OSHA

Dear OSHA,

My classroom is falling apart at the seams. The air vents always smell musty and even though I filed multiple clean air inquiries with the county, nothing has been done. Because of this my students and my allergies go bonkers all year long. Also, I can’t control the temperature on the thermostat, so I can’t control the growth of mildew in the ducts. That is probably why it smells. To compensate I am constantly spraying room deodorizer to mask the smell for a few fleeting moments until it’s time to spray again. This also makes our allergies go bonkers. Usually I open the window to let fresh air in (it’s especially nice this time of year to do so) but today when I did this, my window broke…fell off the track. I know I know, it sounds pretty cool to be able to break a window, but it was really overrated.

I’ve heard all of the excuses before and they hold as much water as a burlap bag; the county doesn’t really care about putting money into fixing up an old school, especially when we’re on the “fast track” (Ha! we’ve been on it for over 13 years now)  to get a whole new school, blah blah blah. But doesn’t it make sense that if the kids are happy and healthy (teacher too) they are more productive?

Call me crazy I guess…And so it goes.
